Kathleen “Cookie” Cici is San Gabriel’s 2018 Outstanding Older American! She was honored at the 53rd Annual Older Americans Recognition Day Awards by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on May 17, 2018. The awards ceremony took place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Music Center in Los Angeles. Cookie has been a resident of San Gabriel for the past 28 years and has always been willing to lend a hand. She was recently honored by the San Gabriel City Council for spending many hours volunteering with different community groups. During her many years in San Gabriel, Cookie has been a member of San Gabriel Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the San Gabriel Historical Association and the San Gabriel Women’s Foundation. As part of these community groups she has had a major role in the City’s egg hunt and pancake breakfast and the holiday tree lighting, among many other things. Cookie was also a contributor to San Gabriel’s City Centennial and Rose Parade float committees.
Cookie Cici volunteered many hours to the Roosevelt Elementary School library when her children were in school. She made hundreds of bookmarks for the Book Fair and dressed up as Clifford the Big Red Dog for one of the events. Cookie’s friends describe her as giving and always willing to help. If she sees someone in need Cookie is the first one to ask what they need and how she can help get it to them. Along with being honored as San Gabriel’s Outstanding Older American, Cookie will serve as Grand Marshal for the upcoming 4th of July Parade.
