How do I know if I live within the City of San Gabriel boundaries or LA County?

How long does it take to review plans for a building plan check?
Turnaround times can fluctuate based on the type of project submitted for review. Projects typically go through 2 to 3 reviews prior to being approved for construction. Each review is generally completed within 15 to 20 working days.

I have an inspection scheduled. When can I find out the time the inspector will be coming out?
You can call the Community Development Department (626 308-2806) after 8:30 a.m. on the day of inspection to verify if the inspection will be in the morning or afternoon.
Morning inspections are between 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Afternoon inspections are from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.

How soon will I be able to schedule an inspection after I call?
Inspections can be scheduled for the next business day if there is an opening available. During especially busy times, you may need to wait two or three business days for an inspection.

What department is responsible for scheduling occupancy inspections?
This is coordinated through the Community Development Department at (626) 308-2806.

Does my permit ever expire?
Yes, if the work authorized on the site by such permit has not commenced within 180 days or is suspended and/or abandoned for a period of 180 days after its issuance. New fees may be assessed to renew the permit.

What year/version of the building codes have been adopted and are currently being enforced by the City?
We use the 2010 California Codes plus local amendments. However, starting January 1, 2014, the 2013 California Codes with local amendments will be in effect. Reference: San Gabriel Municipal Code section 150.

Is a City permit required for re-roofing?
Yes, in all cases.
10.
How many layers of roof covering materials are allowed before I need to completely tear off?
Two layers.
