Welcome to the City of San Gabriel, California-birthplace of the Los Angeles region!
The City of San Gabriel exists to serve its citizens. Our City Council, staff and numerous volunteers work diligently to provide the services, programs, and activities necessary for a healthy and vibrant community. We view our citizens, both residents and businesses, as valued customers whom we are here to serve.
Everyone can take great pride in our community's rich history, quality lifestyle and home-town feeling. Strong municipal service and a progressive approach have distinguished San Gabriel as one of the region's leading communities. Because of this, the San Gabriel has been honored with a number of important awards including:
- the prestigious James C. Howland "Award for Urban Enrichment" from the National League of Cities;

- the "Helen Putnam Award" from the League of California Cities in recognition of the success of the Mission District revitalization program;

- the "California Healthy City 1997 Special Recognition Award," presented by the Western Consortium for Public Health, for policies and programs which improve community health and well-being; and

- the 1998 International City/County Management Association "Award for Local Government Education" in recognition of the City's local government education programs, P.A.T.H. and Youth in Government.
- 2001 recipient of the State of California Department of Recreation "Award of Excellence" for Smith Park
