There are 115 storm drain catch basins throughout the City. The catch basins are cleaned at least once each year. The storm drains and catch basins are monitored for illegal connections and illicit disposal of hazardous materials.
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
NPDES was created by the federal government under the Clean Water Act to reduce the amount of pollution flowing into our rivers, lakes, and oceans. This pollution damages the environment and creates a public health risk. The EPA and the California Regional Water Quality Control Board administer the program that requires the City of San Gabriel to meet standards pertaining to waste discharge from municipal stormwater and urban runoff.
