SUMMER PARK SCHEDULE

The Parks & Recreation Department is gearing up for a fun-filled summer! Summer programs will be offered Monday-Friday at Smith Park, Roosevelt School, Washington School and Marshal School. Activities will include games, arts & crafts and special events. A highlight of the summer activities is the Kid's travel Club. the club will visit the El Capitan Theater, Huntington Beach, Raging Waters and California Adventure.

Kid’s Travel Club

SUMMER 2010 Trips

El Capitan Theatre:  Thursday, July 1.  Departure:  9:00 a.m.  Return:  1:30 p.m.

Join us for a movie at the historic El Capitan Theatre.  This historical theatre has been the starting point for many of Hollywood finest.  Enjoy a morning movie, Toy Story 3 the newest animated movie from Disney Pixar Studios.  Price includes a kid’s popcorn, drink and a treat.  A brown bag lunch will be provided.  Registration is limited, so register today.  Fee:  $17

Huntington Beach:  Thursday, July 8.  Departure: 9:00 a.m.  Return: 5:00 p.m.  Looking for a great time?  Join us for a day at the beach!  A Subway Sandwich, chips and a drink will be provided.  Bring snacks, towel, beach gear and/or money for treats.  Registration closes when bus is full.  Fee: $10.

Bowling and Swimming:  Thursday, July 15.  Departure: 9:30 a.m.  Return: 4:30 p.m.  You won’t want to miss this fun-filled day!  Your registration fee includes two games of bowling and shoe rental, lunch and an afternoon swim at Smith Park Pool.  Don’t forget your swims suits and sun screen.  Registration closes when the bus is full.  Fee: $18

Boomers:  Thursday, July 22.  Departure: 9:00 a.m.  Return: 4:00 p.m.  Tee off for this day at Boomers!  Your registration fee includes unlimited miniature golf and cosmic miniature golf, rides, video games and an “All You Can Eat” Pizza Buffet.  Registration closes when the bus is full.  Fee: $25.       

Penny Carnival:  Friday, July 23, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Smith Park. 

Gather your pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and come on down to the summer Penny Carnival!  Recreation Staff will have plenty of challenging game booths for you to try your luck at winning candy and prizes.  Most booths still charge only one penny to play.  Bring a bag full of change and have a ball!!  All playgrounds will be closed for this event. 

Free Admission!!

Raging Waters:  Thursday, July 29.  Departure: 9:00 a.m.  Return: 5:00 p.m.  Get ready to enjoy a wet, wild, and wacky day at Raging Waters!  Try the All New DRAGONS DEN, A Meal Deal is included in the price for lunch.  Bring money for snacks.  Registration closes when the bus is full.  Fee: $30.

California Adventure:  Tuesday, August 5.  Departure: 8:00 a.m.  Return: 7:00 p.m.  Immerse yourself in a magical festival of shows, parades and attractions celebrating California's storied past and exciting future. From the gold rush to Hollywood's golden era to the timeless allure of the beach, discover the vast and diverse Golden State.  Bring extra money for lunch, souvenirs, and treats.  Tickets are for youth 18 and under only!!  Registration closes when bus is full.  Fee: $40.

 

AFTERSCHOOL RECREATION AND SPORTS PROGRAM

Get Ready, Get Set…. Go to After-School Sports!! 

Your child will learn the fundamentals of sports and gain a sense of pride and sportsmanship. Public school youth in the 4th and 5th grades play on teams representing their school. This quarter boys and girls will participate in the Playground Super Challenge, followed by Soccer and Drill Team.

The after-school recreation and sports program will be held at the following locations: 

Coolidge, Washington, Wilson, Roosevelt and McKinley, Marshal & Dewey.

Dates: March 22 - May 28

The program will be run at from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., or until dark, Tuesday thru Friday.  Each playground will have a male and female leader each day that will provide a traditional sports program for participants. Please stop by and meet the Recreation Leaders.

The after school recreation program is not day care.  Children are encouraged by staff to remain on the playground, but they are free to come and go at any time.  Staff is not responsible for children who choose to leave the playground.  All participants must have a parent or guardian complete and sign a Participant Information Form and return it to their Recreation Leader to participate.  Parents are encouraged to stop by and meet the Recreation Leaders. All recreation programs close at the time listed above, which concludes the Recreation Department’s supervision of participants.  Recreation Leaders are instructed to leave the facility at that time.

Playground Super Challenge

The Playground Super Challenge is open to all 4th & 5th grade girls and boys that attend any elementary school in the city limits. The callenge consists of four tournament-style contests that include Volley-Tennis, Cature the Flag, Kickball and Basketball Skills. Schools will be represented by one team combined with female and male participants. teams may compete in one game from each sport. The final challenge is an academic trivia game related to the appropriate curriculum from the patrticipant's grade levels. the winner is determined by the overall points scored throughout the day. Awards will be distributed to the st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. For more information please contact your school's Recreation Leaders. From March 15-26, boys and girls participate in the Playground Super Challenge. Sign-ups for the Playground Super Challenge begin March 15. The Playground Super Challenge will be held on Saturday, March 27 at Washington Elementary School. Interested youth should sign up with the after school Recreation Leader at their school.

Soccer and Drill Team

Following the Playground Super Challenge, boys will participate in soccer. Games for soccer will be held Saturdays at Washington Elementary. Girls will participate in drill team, with the City Championships being held May 22 at Jefferson Middle School in the gymnasium beginning at 10am. Parents are encouraged to attend these activities. The after-school recreation program will end on Friday, May 28.

 

Jefferson Middle (6th, 7th And 8th Grades) School Program:

The Jefferson sports program is a high school preparatory program.  The program operates Monday thru Friday, after school from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., or until dark. Participants try out for the combined sixth/seventh and eighth grade teams, and the selected team members will represent Jefferson Middle School in the Foothill Sports League.  Each team will have its own schedule for games.  Game schedules will be distributed to the participants.  All Jefferson students are encouraged to visit the Recreation Leaders after school to get information regarding sports leagues and to participate in this exciting program.
