The Community Services Department, formerly Parks and Recreation, is embarking on a department strategic plan.  There is an opportunity for the community to provide input on our future department programs, events, parks and facilities. 

We want to hear from you!


Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in our community by providing well-maintained open spaces and positive recreational experiences.

City of San Gabriel Grapevine Guide
Class Registration Begins Monday, September 8 at 8:00 a.m.

Grapevine Arbor Park will be transformed into a Haunted Zone on Thursday, October 30 from 6 – 9 p.m.

Those brave enough to attempt the zone will have a ghoulish good time. This Haunted Zone is presented by the City of San Gabriel in conjunction with Gabrielino High School.

Visit the Grapevine Arbor Park at the Adult Recreation Center, 324 South Mission Drive, if you DARE!!! This event is recommended for ages 12 and over. For more information, please contact Acting Assistant Director Tom Boecking at 626.308.2875 or .



Bring the family for a ‘spooktacular’ good time with Halloween activities in the Historic Mission District on Thursday, October 30 from 5 – 9 p.m.

The family-friendly "Fall Fun Festival" is open to all ages and will take place at the Mission Playhouse Plaza, located at 320 South Mission Drive. Little ghosts, witches, goblins, and critters will enjoy trick-or-treating, games, free family photos, a costume contest, kid’s activities, and free food!

Halloween flicks will be shown in the Mission Playhouse with a live organist.


After-school Recreation and Sports Program
Public school youth in the 4th and 5th grades play on teams representing their school. The school year will begin with Football and Volleytennis. This after-school recreation and sports program will be held at the following locations: Coolidge, Washington, Wilson, Roosevelt & McKinley School.

The after-school recreation and sports program will begin on August 26 and will run from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, or until dark, Tuesday thru Friday.  Prior to participating, all children must have a parent or guardian complete and sign a Participant Information Form and Emergency Card and return it to their Recreation Leader.
