Become a Commissioner
Local Appointment List
We’re currently looking for new commissioners to join a commission in the City of San Gabriel. Commissions help advise the City Council on several important matters, including civil service, design, recreation, planning and historic preservation. Commissioners are appointed by the City Council when vacancies occur. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until all vacancies have been filled.
Civil Service Commission
The Civil Service Commission oversees employee appeals regarding disciplinary action. This commission meets on an as-needed basis, usually in the evening.
Community Services Commission
The Community Services Commission helps review recreation and park programs and policies in the City. The commission meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chamber.
Design Review Commission
The Design Review Commission is responsible for reviewing building plans for commercial and residential projects, including items covering architecture, colors, materials and landscaping. The commission meets every fourth Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chamber.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission reviews the development and beautification of the City, including items that cover private buildings, streets and vacant lots. The commission meets once per month on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Council Chamber.
Human Equity, Access and Relations (HEAR) Commission
The HEAR Commission assesses and recommends policies, procedures and activities in the City government to advance and advocate for equity, access, diversity, social justice, safety, mutual appreciation, increased cultural competency, positive inter-group relations and respect for all members of the San Gabriel community. They meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chamber.
Historic Preservation and Cultural Resource Commission
The Historic Preservation and Cultural Resource Commission reviews the identification, protection, retention, preservation and registration of cultural resources in the City. They meet on the second Wednesday of March, June, September, December and as needed at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chamber.
