San Gabriel's Outstanding Older American

The City of San Gabriel, in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, is sponsoring an “Older American Recognition Day”. The Community Services Department is soliciting public input in determining San Gabriel’s Outstanding Older American.

This program is designed to seek out and honor persons 65 years of age and older who are actively involved in service to others in their community.  The purpose is to encourage community leaders to remain active in mainstream community life.

The 2020 recipient of San Gabriel's Outstanding Older American Award goes to Sue Fitzsimmons.

Sue Fitzsimmons has been awarded the coveted San Gabriel Outstanding Older American Award for her community service and contributions for the betterment of the City and its citizens. She began volunteering with with the San Gabriel Police Department assisting the front counter, the Records and Detective Bureaus and Administration. She later happily took on the role of the San Gabriel Police Department’s K9 liaison. Sue developed the nonprofit, Partners of San Gabriel K9’s, to supplement the City’s K9 program. She continues to operate the non-profit and spread her knowledge throughout the community.
