When to request a police report or a case number

Most often, insurance companies, banks, phone companies, and other organizations do not require you to provide a physical copy of a crime report. Instead, the case number or the Originating Case Agency (OCA) information will meet the requirement for documentation. For many family court domestic-related issues when the judge is requesting proof of a police call for service, most often, the OCA information will suffice. OCA information can be available in less time than the release of the police report.

You can obtain your case number by calling the Records department, Monday 7AM - 4PM and Tuesday - Friday 7AM - 6PM at (626) 308-2828

When to request a police report or a case number

  • You must be a party involved in the report, or the legal representative of an involved party (authorization is required, and must be attached to your request).
  • You must have standing (a specific legal right) to receive the information. The application form lists those authorized. If the application calls for a signed authorization, it be must be included.
