Councilmember Carina Rivera was appointed to the San Gabriel City Council in February 2022. As a single mother and successful business operator, Rivera has a unique perspective of the working class and understands the needs of the underserved and underrepresented members of the community. Her priorities include fostering connections with the working class, veterans, and youth to encourage participation in community events and local government; increasing community engagement; maintaining safety in the community; and increasing mental health awareness, resources, and services.
Rivera is an active member of the community: she has served as a member on the Parent Planning Committee at the San Gabriel Mission High School and is currently a member of the San Gabriel Women’s Foundation; a member of the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce for more than 10 years and is currently serving on the chamber’s Board of Directors for the third year. Rivera is also actively involved with Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley and has supported various city events throughout the years. In addition, she commissioned the largest art mural in the City of San Gabriel.
As a proud single mother, Rivera has a daughter and a son, who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice and special education respectively.
