Bridge Replacement Project

Del Mar Avenue/Alhambra Wash Bridge Replacement Project

Bridge.jpg

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Replace the Del Mar Avenue Bridge crossing the Alhambra Wash south of Valley Boulevard. The existing bridge is 83 years old and classified as structurally deficient and functionally obsolete due to the condition of the steel structure, the narrow travel width and the need for seismic upgrades. During construction, please keep in mind that traffic will be impacted. A minimum of one lane will be open in each direction during construction, and access to homes and businesses will be maintained. In addition, a temporary detour ramp and traffic signal at Bencamp Street will be constructed along with a driveway widening project at Abbot Avenue. This will help improve access to the San Gabriel Square shopping center during construction.

FEATURES:

  • Replace steel with concrete components
  • Widen travel width
  • Add left turn lane into shopping center to alleviate traffic
  • Include architectural treatments on new bridge to provide a visually appealing entry point into the Golden Mile District.

PROJECT TIMELINE:

  • Start construction: February 2018.
  •  Complete construction: February 2020.
