In 2000 the City Council recognized that the city's 11,800 sq. ft. police facility was in desperate need of replacement. Built in 1962, it is in a dilapidated state, extremely undersized for the number of staff it supports and lacks the elements (Dispatch Center, Jail, Community Room, etc.) of a modern police facility.
