Silent Sundays Series: Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1920)
Sunday, October 2, 2022
Fall events at the Mission Playhouse kick off with their Silent Sundays screening of the 1920 classic horror film, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, starring John Barrymore on October 2nd at 2:30pm!
Set in 19th century London, Henry Jekyll is a physician and philanthropist, a well respected member of society who cares for the poor.
Jekyll becomes transfixed with the idea of separating the two natures in man, “to yield to every evil impulse, yet leave the soul untouched” and begins experiments which have dire consequences.
Accompanying the film on the Playhouse’s Mighty Wurlitzer theater pipe organ is Russ Peck. Mr. Peck currently performs at San Diego Symphony Hall/Jacobs Music Center for their silent film presentations and is house organist at San Diego’s Balboa Theatre.
The series continues on December 4th with their last screening of the year, comic great Harold Lloyd’s 1923 film, Girl Shy.
This event is presented in partnership with the Los Angeles Theatre Organ Society.
Tickets start at $12. Tickets purchased online are subject to additional fees. For information on how to purchase tickets, visit bit.ly/JekyllHydeSGMP
