The San Gabriel Police Department will be hosting its next Citizen Academy class beginning on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. The department plans to host at least two 12-week Citizen Academy sessions every year, and Chinese and Spanish-language academies are also being developed.
The Citizen Academy is designed to give citizens who live, work, or attend school in
San Gabriel an overview of law enforcement, while simultaneously giving attendees the opportunity to meet the men and women in uniform who serve their community. This exciting and informative eleven-week course includes an introduction to the department bureaus, community programs and the criminal justice system. Citizens can also expect to participate in hands-on activities that offer an authentic law enforcement experience, including police tactics and firearms safety.
Applications are now available and must be submitted on or before January 2, 2018. Apply early, as space is limited to 20 students per class. Admission will be based on a first come, first serve basis for qualified applicants. Qualified applicants who are not admitted into this session will be waitlisted for the following session.
