[ARCHIVED] City Manager’s monthly message

City Manager’s monthly message

Dear San Gabriel,

To provide more insight about what happens at City Hall, I’d like to provide a monthly update showcasing news and events from the City that may not always receive an article on our blog or an entry in our newsletter. As you probably know, the City is composed of ten departments that are responsible for carrying out the City Council’s directive. With these monthly updates, you’ll have the opportunity to see what each department is doing in detail to make San Gabriel a better place to live, work and play.

Along with these developments, I also hope to recognize some of the women and men behind our City so that you may get a glimpse of their accomplishments and how they may contribute to our community.

So without further delay, here is the City Manager’s update for May:

City Manager’s Office

  • First, I wanted to give you an update about the sewer incident that we had earlier this week. At the moment, our staff is reaching out to residents and businesses who may have been affected by the sewage backup. If you have been affected, please get in touch with us so that we may offer assistance.
  • This month, Mayor Harrington, Vice Mayor Pu, Councilmember Chin Ho Liao, Councilmember Juli Costanzo, Community Development Director Armine Chaparyan, Economic Development Manager Angelica Frausto-Lupo and I attended the International Conference of Shopping Centers (ICSC) on behalf of San Gabriel. For those who aren’t familiar with the conference, ICSC is a networking opportunity that links up cities, developers and organizations with the goal of fostering economic development. For San Gabriel, this is an opportunity for meeting with potential developers who may want to start their business in our City.  We had the opportunity to meet with several restaurateurs, grocers, retailers and developers who expressed an interest in our community, and we hope to follow up with these organizations in the coming weeks.

City Clerk

  • I’m very happy to announce that we’ve hired a new Chief City Clerk: Sharon Clark will be joining our City in June, and she comes to us from the City of Covina. In her new role, she’ll oversee the City Clerk’s department, which acts as a liaison between the community and the City Council. Welcome to San Gabriel, Sharon!
