On June 29, 2018 at approximately 2:40 p.m., the San Gabriel Police Department received a call of an armed bank robbery in progress at Citibank located at 532 West Valley Boulevard in the City of San Gabriel. When officers arrived at the location, they discovered the suspect had already fled the scene with several thousand dollars.
During their initial investigation, Officers learned the suspect used a mask to conceal his identity and brandished a black handgun toward the bank teller and customers. The suspect demanded cash from the teller and fled the scene with the money, escaping in a vehicle.
San Gabriel Police Detectives took over the investigation and on June 30, 2018 at approximately 9:40 a.m., Detectives were able to successfully locate and arrest the suspect, Hubert Sing Chung, 51, in the City of Industry. Detectives subsequently served a search warrant at two of his residences and located 21 handguns, 9 rifles, numerous rounds of ammunitions and cartridges, the clothing worn during the commission of the robbery and also recovered the stolen currency from the bank.
Chung is currently being held at Alhambra Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail pending arraignment scheduled for Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Alhambra Superior Court.
