The Mission Playhouse is proud to host San Gabriel Valley Music Theater’s Summer Musical Theater Program for Students. The program, which runs from July 16 to August 4, will help strengthen participants’ musical theatre skills.
Students will be taking classes in various theatre subjects on a weekly basis. They will be able to expand their skill sets in singing/vocal technique, dance, acting, improvisational comedy, character creation, text work, and stage make-up.
The program will provide an opportunity for students aged 8 to 18 to participate in the creation of a theatrical production of a junior Broadway musical, Willy Wonka Jr. by Roald Dahl. The musical follows the candy man, Willy Wonka, in his search for an heir to his chocolate factory. Much like the famous 1971 movie, the musical is based on the golden ticket contest with six children winning a tour of the chocolate factory. The children must follow all of Wonka’s rules in order to win the ultimate prize, however, the bratty attitudes of the other children leave only Charlie at the end of the tour.
