Join the Community Services department as we celebrate Active Aging Week from September 24 through September 28.
Active Aging Week, organized by the International Council on Active Aging, is a national observance showcasing the diverse opportunities available to older adults in a fun and educational atmosphere. This year’s theme is “Inspiring Wellness.” There will be a number of activities throughout the week to exercise the mind as well as the body. Activities will include daily brain games, health and wellness presentations, outdoor games and much more! All activities will take place at the Adult Recreation Center located at 324 South Mission Drive in San Gabriel. During Active Aging Week, you will also have an opportunity to sample several classes that are offered by Community Services for free!
Take part in chair yoga, beginning ballroom dance, water aerobics, tennis, and an introduction to computers. Classes are subject to change. San Gabriel’s older adults can stay active by trying just one or all of the classes during the week. While the free offer is limited to one class session during Active Aging Week, Community Services will be raffling free entry into a class for the remainder of the session to one lucky participant! During Active Aging Week all participants attending a free class must register and complete a waiver form for the class before attending.
To register for a class or for more information on older adult programs, please contact Recreation Supervisor James Lara at 626.308.2875 or jlara@sgch.org. Any person with a disability who requires a modification or accommodation in order to participate should direct such request to the Community Services Department at 626.308.2875 at least 48 hours before the event, if possible.
