The Community Services Department, along with the Asian Youth Center, has been awarded a grant through KaBOOM! to build a new playground at Smith Park. KaBOOM!, the grant provider, focuses on bringing play and physical activity to children. The funding partner selected for the project is the CarMax Foundation.
Design Day was held on Wednesday, January 23. Youth from the Asian Youth Center, with the help of “Chuck’’ the Los Angeles Clippers mascot, were tasked with designing a dream playground. Adults from the community were invited to learn about the process, volunteer and provide input on the playground design. With the design and build being an accelerated process, Build Day is scheduled for Thursday, March 14.
The Community Services Department is seeking volunteers, ages 18 and over, to assist with the playground build. To volunteer or to learn more about the project, call the Community Services Department at 626.308.2875 or email Christina Alatorre at calatorre@sgch.org.
