Last Thursday, the City of San Gabriel, in partnership with KaBOOM!, the Asian Youth Center, and The CarMax Foundation, joined together to build a new playground at Smith Park. The previous playground at Smith Park was originally constructed in 1995 and was in need of replacement after years of service.
Back in January, kids from the surrounding community came together to draw their dream playground. The playground is based off their drawings and will provide thousands of kids in San Gabriel with a great, safe place to play over its lifetime. “We’re very privileged to partner with KABOOM! and The CarMax Foundation to bring a new playground to San Gabriel,” said John Harrington, Mayor of San Gabriel. “Not only does this new playground allow a new generation to experience the joys of play, but it will also allow the community to gather together to create something truly great.”
Special guests from the L.A. Clippers joined Build Day, including members of the Clippers Spirit dance team and Chuck the Condor.
