As part of a mixed-use project at 402 to 404 South San Gabriel Boulevard, the developer has agreed to fund a traffic light installation at San Gabriel Boulevard and Commercial Avenue at a cost of $250,000.00. After bids were advertised in March 2019, three bids were selected. Comet Electric, Inc was selected as the lowest responsible bidder with a cost of $218,575.00. The project includes two additive alternate bid schedules for additional work that may be awarded if budgets allow at a cost of $14,327.00 and $12,977.00, respectively.
You may recall that this item was originally heard at the May 7 City Council meeting. At the time, the City Council directed City staff to attach insurance requirements and an indemnity, defense and hold harmless agreement to the contract. With these modifications in place, this item has been brought back to the City Council for review.
If approved, the project will upgrade street signs and pavement markings in the area as well as improve traffic flow and reduce traffic congestion.
The City Council is recommended to adopt the plans and specifications and to authorize the City Manager to execute contract documents with Comet Electric, Inc for a cost of $245,897.00. The total purchase order totals to $270,466.90, which includes a 10% construction contingency.
