[ARCHIVED] San Gabriel City to Provide $70,000 in Grants for Businesses Impacted by COVID-19

City Council in front of City Hall introducing a new grant program for businesses

On July 28 at a press conference in front of San Gabriel City Hall, the City of San Gabriel introduced the application process for grants for businesses that have been impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The City will distribute $70,000 to qualified businesses through a random lottery system as part of its new 10-Point Plan. The 10-Point Plan aims to support and strengthen the San Gabriel business community through grants, supplies and resources via the City’s Economic Development Division.

“The businesses in San Gabriel are an important element to what makes San Gabriel such a special place to live, work and play,” said San Gabriel Mayor Denise Menchaca. “The pandemic has really had a devastating effect on business and the economy as a whole, and the City Council is proud to be able to provide these business grants and donated personal protective equipment to help support our businesses during this unprecedented time.”

The press conference will highlight how businesses may apply for relief funding via www.SanGabrielED.com. Business grant guidelines in English, Chinese, Vietnamese and Spanish will be published online on July 28 or sent via mail upon request, and the application will be available on August 3. Applications will be accepted online or via mail, and the deadline to submit is August 28 at 5:00 p.m.

Funding from the program comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) using funding provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

Officials from the City will also highlight a drive-through event at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse on August 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. where San Gabriel businesses are invited to drive-through and exchange a San Gabriel business card for a business supply kit complete with personal protective equipment, information about the business grant program and other elements of the 10-Point Plan. Businesses may also visit www.SanGabrielED.com for resources and information for businesses.
