[ARCHIVED] Update on Del Mar Ave Sewer Project

Del Mar Sewer

What’s going on at the intersection of Del Mar Avenue and Valley Boulevard?

The Valley Blvd and Del Mar Avenue intersection is currently undergoing major construction work - including overhead utility lines being relocated underground, sewer pipes being replaced, and Del Mar Avenue paving. Over the next year or so, please expect lane reductions and traffic delays. We encourage you to seek alternative routes or leave earlier if you are traveling through the intersection.

Phase 1 - Utility Line Relocated Underground (Completed)

All overhead utility lines adjacent to the project site and crossing Valley Blvd have been moved underground. This was completed in late 2022 and is part of the hotel development project on the northwestern corner of Valley Blvd and Del Mar Avenue.

Phase 2 - Sewer Rehabilitation (Current Phase)

As the existing sewer pipe is flowing very near capacity, we are installing a new, larger sewer line across Valley Blvd. This phase is expected to complete around February 2023.

Phase 3 - Paving of Del Mar Avenue (2023-2024)

Once the sewer work is completed, the City will contract paving work to resurface Del Mar Ave on both sides of Valley Blvd. The intersection itself will be repaved in the next phase.

Phase 4 - Paving of Intersection and Improvements on Valley Blvd (2024 and Onwards)

The intersection of Del Mar Avenue and Valley Blvd will be fully reconstructed in 2024 as our Measure R-funded intersection projects with Metro begin. Other improvements include new traffic signals, controller cabinets, widening lanes and crosswalks. The intersections of Valley Blvd at New Ave and at San Gabriel Blvd will also be included in this project, which will improve traffic flow along Valley Blvd.

There is still a lot of work to be done, but a very nice ending for this busy intersection is in sight. We thank everyone for their patience.
