Now through April 3, 2023, the City of San Gabriel will be accepting applications for volunteer candidates to serve on the city’s five commissions. Each commissioner will be serving up to two-year terms starting from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2025. Commissions help advise the City Council on several important matters, including civil service, design, recreation, planning and historic preservation.

Civil Service Commission
Positions available: 2
The Civil Service Commission consists of five members responsible for hearing employee appeals regarding disciplinary action. Commissioners must reside in the City of San Gabriel.
Community Services Commission
Positions available: 3
The Community Services Commission is a five-member advisory board that provides a communication link between the City Council, Community Services staff, and the community on matters related to community services and leisure-time programs and activities. Commissioners must reside in the City of San Gabriel.
Design Review Commission
Positions available: 2
The Design Review Commission is comprised of five members to include representation from design professions such as architecture, landscape architecture, engineering and building design. The Commission is responsible for reviewing building plans for commercial and residential projects. There are no residency requirements.
Historic Preservation and Cultural Resources Commission
Positions available: 3
The Historic Preservation and Cultural Resource Commission consists of five members. The Commission advises the City Council on subjects relating to the identification, protection, retention, preservation, and registration of cultural resources in the city. There are no residency requirements.
Planning Commission
Positions available: 2
The Planning Commission consists of five members who consider applications for zone changes, subdivisions, variances, development plans and conditional use permits, in addition to other special applications. The Commission makes recommendations to the City Council concerning amendments to the General Plan, land use and zoning standards. Commissioners must reside in the City of San Gabriel.
