The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Class is set to return from November 17 to 19, offering invaluable training in basic emergency response skills. Taught by San Gabriel Fire Engineer Takahiro Suzuki and local firefighters, this free, in-person course is designed to equip participants with the skills to help their families and communities during disasters. When a widespread disaster such as a large-scale earthquake happens, CERT members are an essential resource for the community when the fire department and other first responders become overwhelmed during the initial response stage.
The course takes place over three days and combines hands-on classes and classroom training, covering:
- Disaster management strategies
- Medical operations training
- Triage techniques
- Search and rescue protocols
- Fire safety practices
Class Schedule:
- November 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- November 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- November 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Interested participants who want to become CERT-trained should register by November 1. Contact Taka Suzuki at tsuzuki@sgfd.org or (626) 308-2880 to sign up.
