The kids are almost out of school and the weather’s turning warmer – and that means it’s time to start the summer season in San Gabriel. Community members can kick things off at the city’s Surf’s Up summer street party on Thursday, June 9 from 6:00-9:30 p.m. in the historic Mission District.
There will be no shortage of delicious dinner options at the festival, which will take over Mission Drive for a fun and relaxed family evening. Attendees can grab some delicious Korean tacos from the famous Kogi BBQ truck, try some cheesy treats from The Grilled Cheese Truck, sample some popular poke bowls from Poke 2 Go, sample some sliders and fries from Slammin’ Sliders, order some fried chicken goodness from Free Range LA or chow down on a dog or sausage from The Greasy Wiener truck.
And there’s always room for dessert; get an ice cream sandwich from Paradise Cookies and Ice Cream, slurp a colorful shaved ice from Get Shaved or try some unique beer-infused ice cream from Scoops on Tap.
The surf-inspired sounds of Beach Boys cover band Woodie and the Longboards will fill the air as community members enjoy their dinner. And later, attendees can watch a performance from hula dancers The Dancing Fire – and even learn how to hula themselves. Finally, the kids can work off a little steam at the Kids’ Zone, with bouncy houses, carnival games and more.
Surf’s Up San Gabriel is free to attend. For more information, visit the event Facebook page or call 626.308.2806.
