This summer, the Neighborhood Improvement Services (NIS) Division increased enforcement of illegal signage along Valley Boulevard, Del Mar Avenue and Las Tunas Drive.

NIS officers inspected approximately 85 businesses, which resulted in the removal of more than 125 banners and dozens of A-frame and temporary signs. Officers also issued notices to all massage businesses instructing them to remove window coverings and lanterns. To date all of the massage businesses have removed the lanterns from the exterior.

The city's municipal code prohibits temporary paper, cloth or plastic, non-permanent signs, light bulb strings used as part of advertising display (except for holiday decorations), exposed gas-filled lighting tubes (neon signs), strings of lights and exposed bulbs.
