On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the City Council approved a Professional Services Agreement with firm GreenPlay LLC, launching a major first step in the creation of the city’s Parks and Open Space Master Plan.
The plan will ultimately help determine how the city can best meet residents’ park, open space and recreation needs by enhancing existing parks and facilities as well as acquiring additional open space and park land. It will also open doors for potential new funding sources that can be used for future projects.
The process of developing the plan will include an inventory and analysis of the city’s current parks, open space, facilities and recreation programs, as well as a robust community outreach and participation component. Some of the main objectives of the process will be to identify the values of the community, provide a city-wide vision for parks and open space, develop a plan that embodies the unique history and characteristics of the community and provide clear implementation strategies for the plan’s recommendations.
Once completed, the plan will recommend future parks, facilities and open space that will best cater to the needs of the San Gabriel community. It will be a guiding document for the City Council, Community Services Department, city staff and the general public for future decisions.
