Pickleball, one of the fastest growing sports in the country, will soon be available to play at Smith Park.
Pickleball is mix between tennis and ping pong. It is played on a smaller court with wooden paddles and a Wiffle ball. Pickleball is a great sport for all ages, even including older adults who want to stay active but may have limited mobility. Beginning the week of Nov. 28, the Community Services Department will host open pickleball time at Smith Park. One tennis court, which can fit two pickleball courts, will be reserved on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
On Friday, Dec. 9, San Gabriel will host a special pickleball demonstration, presented by guest instructor Michele Logan, at Smith Park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Michele Logan is Pasadena’s USAPA pickleball ambassador and will talk about the history of the sport and teach attendees how to play.
