It's almost time to celebrate the end of 2016 and the beginning of the new year. But at the end of January, the San Gabriel community will host another new year celebration.
The city will ring in the Year of the Rooster with a fun-filled day of live entertainment, delicious food, shopping, free kids’ activities and much more at the 3rd Annual San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.
The festival will feature free live entertainment all day long on the outdoor stage and inside the historic Mission Playhouse. Entertainment will include both traditional and modern acts. New this year, festivalgoers can also enjoy the Kinjaz Dojo Annual Dance Tournament, in which dance crews from across the region will battle it out and be judged by celebrity dancers.
The San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival is free to attend and has fun options for the entire family. There will be dozens of food trucks and food booths including confirmed vendors like Seoul Street, Waffleland, Boba Bear, Norigami, Gaja, Waffling Around, Paradise Cookies & Ice Cream and Rice Balls of Fire. There will also be merchant booths, a craft beer and wine garden, a kids’ zone, a chalk art contest and new Crafts Village and Dessert Land.
The City is seeking applicants for the Kinjaz Dojo Dance Tournament and the chalk art contest, as well as various vendors. To apply, visit www.sglunarnewyear.org/applications.
The festival will be presented by the City of San Gabriel, along with Jade Sponsors Hilton San Gabriel and LA 18 KSCI-TV, Silver Sponsors Athens Services and 99 Ranch Market, and Bronze Sponsors San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, First General Bank, Citizens Business Bank and San Gabriel Valley Medical Center.
