Weather officials have warned of an intense winter storm that will affect the San Gabriel area in the afternoon on Sunday, Jan. 22.
For residents and business owners who are concerned about flooding at their home or business, sandbags will be available on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Yard, 917 E Grand Ave. After noon, they will be available at Fire Station 52, 115 N Del Mar Ave. Please call 626.308.2880 for more information.
Public Works crews prepared for the storm this week by clearing out drains on city streets. Heavy flooding is not anticipated other than short periods of standing water if the drains are unable to keep up with intense rainfall. Public Works crews are on standby all weekend if services are needed.
On Monday, crews will get to work to patrol city streets and repair potholes caused by the heavy rain. Residents are asked to call 626.308.2825 to report damage on Monday starting at 8 a.m. If residents experience issues outside normal business hours, they should call the Police Department dispatch at 626.308.2828.
Residents are encouraged to stay inside during the storm unless they need to travel, and to ensure that their cell phones are full charged in case of possible power outages due to the storm.
As always, in an emergency, community members should call 911. Find more information about storm preparation and important emergency numbers to call at www.sangabrielcity.com/elnino.
