Kick off your Cinco de Mayo week with the City of San Gabriel! Join us for the Cinco de Mayo Mercado on Saturday, Apr. 29 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. in the Mission District Plaza. Festivities will include live entertainment on our outdoor stage with Ballet Folklorico Sol de Fuego, a group based out of La Casa de San Gabriel, and Las Colibrí, an all female string mariachi ensemble. The Mercado will also include artisits, crafters and kids' activities.
Los Angeles-based Pez Cantina will be serving beer, wine, and their specialty Hibiscus Berry Margaritas. Pez Cantina Owner/Chef Bret Thompson is a San Gabriel resident and we are thrilled to have his restaurant participating in this event. Food trucks and Mission District restaurants will be serving up some delicious eats! Food truck options include Plant Food for People (Vegan carnitas-style tacos), Eagle Foods/505 Food Truck (Mexican Food), Batterfish (fish tacos, Lobster rolls, fish & chips), and Dip'd (Dipped sandwiches). Mission District eateries include Lunas Mexican Restaurant, Pizza Place CA, Love To Go dessert shop, and Factory Tea Bar. Bring the family to enjoy this fun FREE community event!
The Mercado is a free pre-show event to coincide with Jornada, The Flourishing of Flamenco, which will take place inside the Mission Playhouse at 7:30 p.m. For more information about Jornada or to purchase tickets online, visit missionplayhouse.org.
