What are the requirements for getting a cloth or vinyl banner to advertise my business?
You will need to apply for a banner permit. The permit costs $45, and the application form can be found below. Banners are permitted on a temporary basis. They may be hung for up to 60 days at a time for a maximum of 180 days each calendar year. 30 days must pass before beginning a new display period.

Only one banner can be displayed at any given time per business, except where the business occupies a building located at the intersection of two major streets, in which case one banner can be displayed on each side of the building facing a major street. Banners shall be flame retardant, securely fastened and shall pose no public safety hazard.

Banners cannot exceed the size permitted for permanent wall signs as well. This is typically a maximum width of 70 percent of the width of the storefront, and a maximum area of 1.5 times that width. Different standards may apply for different commercial buildings.

Please speak with Public Works to discuss any additional issues you may have regarding your request at (626) 308-2825.
